On the desolate planes of a terraformed Mercury, Kaya refuses to believe the official story of her mother’s death, convinced that she was another victim of the Republic’s oppressive regime. In her quest for truth, she runs afoul of the Republic’s leaders. Too powerful to execute, Kaya is sent instead to the capital on Mars to study and become one of the oppressors. A fate worse than death.
